Feelin' Fall

Fall has always been my favorite season to dress for.  Summer is lovely, and I definitely enjoyed this past one which seemed uncharacteristically warm, and supplied weeks of sundress/swimsuit opportunities.  Still I always get a little excited when the air shifts to brisk, and suddenly the sky takes on all sorts of dark, wondrous, periwinkle shades of gray.  Last weekend I woke almost giddy, kid-on-Christmas-morning-style, to the sounds of the first rain of the season.

The past week has been all about tights, wool coats, and breaking out the boots.  Though my collection is far from lacking, I've decided a new pair of flat to low-heeled brown knee highs is in order this season.  A comfortable pair of knee high boots is a worthy investment and an all weather wardrobe staple; perfect with a mini or over slim fitting jeans, and the ones I've now worn to the ground were absolutely indispensable on my last two winter visits to New York City, they weathered the weather (I=witty), and were comfortable enough for days upon full days walking the city.

A few I'm considering (all around $150):

Maybe not the most fashion-forward item in my arsenal, but necessary nonetheless.  Who says I don't own practical footwear!

Happy Fall and happy Election Day! I hope all my lovely readers got out and voted today! xo Caitlin

Deal of the Day!

Splendid Python Top:

$36 (originally $72, 50% off) at shopbob

I keep coming across this top throughout my fashion travels, and everytime I'm drawn to it, but still a little hesitant.
I think the issue I have is with the "dolman" sleeves :
I've never worn anything with them, and I sort of have this idea you need to be skinny, at least skinny armed or waisted or something for them to look good... maybe it' just me.

Anyway, I'm recommending this top right?  Listen, the fabric is jersey, and the brand is Spendid, so it is without a doubt super soft and comfy.  I love the pewter/black color palate, and the print.

As this has already turned into a much more involved  deal o' the day post, that usual, here is how I suggest styling:
with skinny-straight ankle lenth jeans, a stretchy skirt (for the ultimate original 90210 figure), or fitted shorts:
Here: J Brand (my fave brand), 10" Pencil Jeans With Ankle Zipper, $114.99 (originally $165) at PiperlimeCharley 5.0 Love Her Madly Skinny Skirt, $89 (originally $147) at RevolveMiss Sixty Eka Tailored Short, $72 (originally $193.60) also at Revolve.

As for shoes, flats, platforms or booties, depending on what you're comfortable in, and how casual or dressed up you want to be:
Farylrobin Fabienne, $111 (orig $200) at Revolve, Steve Madden DREEMM, $29.99 (orig $89.99), at Steve Madden, Rosegold Harley Bootie, $168 (orig $240) at Revolve.

And just because I can't help myself, and love shoes the most, some more examples/deals du jour:
FRYE Women's Chelsea Studded Oxford, price ranges from $130.87-$237.95 (list price) at Endless, Steve Madden WYSH, $59.95 (orig $79.95) at Steve Madden, Stuart Weitzman T-Bar Platform Sandal, $230 (orig $458.46, 50% off) at farfetch.

Penny Loves Kenny 'Kelsey' Pump, $44.90 (orig $89.95, 50% off) at Nordstrom, Seychelles Women's Fiddle Bootie, $75.42 (orig $109.95) at Endless, Steve Madden WEAVVER, $49.95 (orig $69.95), at Steve Madden.

Look at that, 13 Deals of the Day in one!  I have a tendency to get a little carried away with this project... and towards forgetting to go to bed.  Anyway, this means I'm taking a break for a few (a break from sale hunting, not lil' bloggy all together, at this point I'm far to invested for such a thing).

Good morning mes petites oiseux!

Rainy Day Reds

Rumor has it (as does the SF Gate Weather Forecast), that Friday will usher back in the wind and rain, at least in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In my neighborhood there may even be lightening (!)
check out that ominous question mark.

Days like these remind me of one of the foremost items on a never-ending fashion wish-list, these bright red Hunter Wellies:

Ever since Emily, author of cupcakes and cashmere, one of my very favorite fashion blogs and sources of inspiration, sported them in the rainy-day post above I've become more and more convinced that they are the missing piece my (almost ridiculously large) shoe collection requires.

They are on the expensive side (around $115), but they are built to last, comfortable, and the look is classic so they won't fall out of fashion after a season.

Geez I sound like I'm up-selling, right! I don't work for the company, I swear, I'm just totally smitten. I also think I may be so used to writing academic papers that require a strong argument that I start sounding persuasive with out really meaning to.

So, I digress... they are just so versatile! So cute paired here with knee-highs and a spring dress, and so hot on Kate Moss in the previous post. She's paired the classic black with short-shorts at a summer music festival.

So why, you may wonder, don't I, apparently the boot's biggest fan, own a pair yet? Well, herein lies the tragedy, I have searched (the internet), high and low, and it seems a size 8 in the red does not exist. Yes, the style does come in a million colors, but I am most enamored with the red, and I try to make it a point not to compromise anything on pieces like these which are, a bit of an investment, not only due to their price, but because they would probably be the only boots of their kind I would own for quite a while, and I know I would always be a little disappointed if I didn't wait for the red to come around.

In any case, you can peruse all the different styles, colors, etc., and where to find them, here, on the Hunter Website. I do also love the yellow, and the navy is pretty and very versatile. Yes, if I were the type of person easily able to buy 3 of the same style at a time those would be my picks... also the orange glossies...

Anyways, lets hope today's weather isn't too yucky,
and I'll leave you with this assortment of Wellie wearing ladies (plus one bf).

clockwise from the top: Nicole Richie, Rachel Bilson, Ashley Olsen, nameless fashionable ladies whose pics turned up in a google image search, Kate Moss and Jamie Hince, St. Angie (as Mrs. Smith), and Anne Hathaway, all rockin the Wellies in real life ("Celebs, they're just like us!").

Bonne journée Mesdemoiselles (et peut-être un bf)!

Note: while rummaging through the tons and tons of images and information relevent to my topic, I learned that the up until 2005, Wellies' popularity was pretty much solely designated to fisherman and WWII soldiers. Then Kate showed up at Glastonbury (a notoriously wet and muddy musical festival) in a pair and almost overnight their desirability skyrocketed; retailers couldn't even keep them in stock. Her choice of pairing them with short-shorts had such a profound effect on popular trends, the outfit itself is considered a phenomenon part of a greater "Kate Moss Effect", which is clearly still going strong 5 years later.
